Chapillon Cuvee Paul 2009

Last night we opened and enjoyed a bottle of 2009 Chapillon Cuvee Paul, a Garnacha from the Calatayud region of Spain. Christophe Chapillon is the vintner, a Frenchman that is living in Spain and producing this really nice wine. The aromas were of tart berries and ripe plums with under tones of leather, licorice and light tobacco. The flavors were complex and layered, with a start of tart blackberries and pepper mellowing to a sweeter fruit on the back of the tongue. It was slightly acidic, which added to the overall flavor. I think it would go best with venison but would work with beef and lamb or other red meats. I like this wine and would strongly recommend it. If you decide to try it, let me know what you think.

2013 Grayson Cabernet Sauvignon, Lot 10

From the Winemaker: The 2013 Grayson Cabernet Sauvignon, Lot 10 shows a dark ruby color with a rich nose of blackberry, raspberries and hints of black pepper. This intense Cabernet is full of artful fruit, provides a round mouth feel and a soft lingering finish with hints of toasted French oak. Handcrafted wine made in small lots.

We enjoyed both the aroma and the taste of this wonderful California wine and would recommend that you give it a try. Rated an 89 by vinodivino and I would have to agree.

Farnese Montepulciano d"Abruzzo Fantini 2013

This deep red, full bodied Italian wine is slightly acidic with aromas of sour black cherries and undertones of leather, tobacco and freshly sun dried linen. Tastes are a combination of black cherries and under-ripe blackberries that add a certain tang. There were slight undertones of oak. This wine would go very well with lasagna. I would give it an 87.
